Can’t Use Podcasts Effectively
I can’t listen to podcasts while doing anything else, at all.
Many, many times have I tried to put on a podcast while doing some work, and many, many times have I lacked either in understanding of the podcast or efficiency of my work. And it really sucks, because there’s lots of podcasts out there that I think I’d like. The CSS Podcast, The Michelle Obama Podcast, and Dissect are just a few of the pods I thought fascinating to listen to in isolation, but absolutely impossible to focus on in tandem with anything important.
It’s not that I have a one-track mind; I can have a conversation with somebody while being productive and listening to music all at the same time, easily. There’s just something impossibly un-multitask-able about podcasts. I’ve gotta soak in that stream of pure auditory information, and that soakage comes at a cost.
Now that I think about it, I don’t even pay much attention to lyrics in the music I listen to while doing something. That’s apparently very common.
It’s torturous, to love something and not be able to love it often.
